It all started when…

I am a longtime Lee County resident who grew up knowing Buell Whitehead and many of his family members.  Growing up on the Babcock Ranch, I saw Buell's work as a reflection of my childhood experiences in the Florida backwoods.  My love for art and the old south helped me realize the true quality of Buell's work.  When I found the “Pig Snatcher” print at a garage sale it started my enthusiastic journey to find out more about Buell's life and artwork.  Some friends put me in touch with Bill Garner, a Lee County pioneer related to the Gonzalez family, some of the first settlers in Lee County.  Bill was a long time friend of Buell's and had an extensive collection of his works along with many stories.
